How Mobile Car Detailing Works
Mobile car detailing from Ride Effect brings the full detail to where your car already is, on your drive at home or in the car park at work. The paintwork is decontaminated, machine polished in the stage you choose and finished with a sealant or one of our coatings, following the same careful method we use at our unit.
Detailing at home or at work means the car can stay where you need it while the work is carried out. To see what each stage achieves and who it suits, visit our car detailing page, or read on to see how a mobile detail is planned from the first call to the final finish.
We cover Bedford, Luton, Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Northampton and Towcester, and work across Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Northamptonshire and London. Prices may vary depending on location, so we confirm the price for your address when you book. Our page on the areas we cover lists the towns in more detail.

How We Plan Your Detail Day
Planning starts when you get in touch. Tell us about the car, its size and the condition of the paint, and we will talk through which stage suits it: a Stage 1 Enhancement for paint in good condition, or a Stage 2 or Stage 3 Correction for swirl marks and scratches. We will also ask if you would like a coating added.
Next, we agree the date, the time and the place. Because some stages take more than a day, we plan the work around your week and agree where it will be carried out. We are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm, and Saturdays are available by appointment.

Step 01 of 08
We start with the wheels, cleaning each face, barrel and the spaces behind the spokes, so brake dust and road grime are not splashed onto paint that has been washed.
Step 02 of 08
The citrus pre wash comes next, including the door shuts and sills, followed by a snow foam pre wash that loosens dirt before a wash mitt touches the paint.
Step 03 of 08
The car is hand washed with pH neutral shampoo using the two bucket method: one bucket for the shampoo and one to rinse the mitt, keeping grit away from the paint.
Step 04 of 08
Washing does not remove everything. Iron fallout is treated, tar is removed and clay lifts any bonded contamination that remains, leaving the paint clean and ready for polishing.
Step 05 of 08
The car is dried with microfibre towels and an air blower, which clears water from gaps, badges and trims, so the paint is dry and ready to be treated.
Step 06 of 08
Once the trims are masked to protect them, the paintwork and lights are machine polished: one fine compound on a Stage 1, two combinations on a Stage 2 and three on a Stage 3.
Step 07 of 08
A panel wipe takes off polishing oils so the finish can be seen as it really is. The paint is then protected with a sealant, or with a ceramic, graphene or self healing coating.
Step 08 of 08
Finally, we polish and protect the exhausts, dress the tyres and trims, and clean and seal the glass, bringing the whole exterior up to the same standard.

Washed, Polished and Protected
Every stage finishes with a sealant or the coating you choose. A Stage 1 or Stage 2 detail takes 1 to 2 days and a Stage 3 takes 2 to 5 days, planned with you at your home or at our unit.
The order of a typical detail day. Timings vary by car and by stage.

Getting the Car Ready for Us
There are three things we ask of you before the day. Please make sure all valuables are cleared from the vehicle, leave a space around the car so we can reach every panel, and make sure we can access it when we arrive, on your drive or in a workplace car park.
If the vehicle is heavily soiled, for example with mud or sand, an additional charge of £20 to £90 may apply. We always explain this before any work starts, so you know where you stand. Otherwise, the price depends on the size of the vehicle and the stage you choose.
- Valuables cleared from the vehicle
- A space around the car on every side
- Access to the car when we arrive

I honestly cannot recommend Raj from Ride Effect enough. The level of detail, care, and pride he puts into his work is on another level. He took his time, didn’t rush anything, and the results speak for themselves.

A detail follows a set order, and each step prepares the car for the next. The wheels come first, so the brake dust and grime on them are not splashed onto clean paint. The citrus pre wash and snow foam then loosen dirt before the two bucket hand wash, so less grit is carried across the paint by the wash mitt.
The car is decontaminated and dried before any machine work, because the paint needs to be clean and dry before it is polished. The trims are masked so the polish stays on the paintwork, and a panel wipe after polishing removes residue so the sealant or coating can bond to clean paint. The exhausts, tyres, trims and glass are finished last.

Corrections That Take More Than a Day

Some details take more than one day. A Stage 1 Enhancement and a Stage 2 Correction each take 1 to 2 days, and a Stage 3 Correction, with three compound and pad stages and a panel wipe between each, takes 2 to 5 days. Where the work is done is agreed with you: at your home, at your workplace or at our unit.
When we plan a longer correction, we talk through what suits you and the car, and agree the plan before any work begins. If you would prefer, you can drop the car off at our unit for the duration of the work. Our paint correction page explains the three stages in depth.

What to Expect When You Book
A £10 deposit per vehicle confirms your booking and comes off the final balance. If you need to cancel, please give us 48 hours’ notice, because cancelling with less than 48 hours’ notice means 50% of the quoted price is payable. Payment is due on the day or before.
Our satisfaction guarantee applies to every booking. If anything is not as it should be, please contact us within 24 hours with photos, and we will arrange a time to put it right. You can reach us by phone, by WhatsApp or by email, whichever is easiest for you.
What Is Mobile Car Detailing?
Mobile car detailing is a full detail carried out at your home or workplace, so the car does not need to come to us. We decontaminate, machine polish and protect the paint on your drive or in your workplace car park, using the same method we use at our unit.
Where Do You Offer Mobile Car Detailing?
We offer mobile car detailing across Bedford, Luton, Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Northampton and Towcester, as well as the surrounding counties and London. Prices may vary depending on location, so please give us your address when you get in touch and we will confirm the price.
What Do I Need to Do Before a Mobile Detail?
Before a mobile detail, please clear all valuables from the vehicle, leave a space around it so we can reach every panel, and make sure we can access the car on the day. We agree the time and the place with you when you book, so you know what to expect.
Can a Longer Correction Be Done at My Home?
Yes, a longer correction can be carried out at your home if that suits you, because where the work is done is agreed with you when you book. A Stage 3 Correction takes 2 to 5 days, so we plan it around your week, and you can also drop the car off at our unit.
Can You Detail My Car at My Workplace?
Yes, we can detail your car at your workplace, for example in the car park, provided there is a space around the vehicle and we can access it. Please tell us where the car will be parked when you book, and we will plan the day around it.
Is a Mobile Detail the Same as One at Your Unit?
Yes, a mobile detail follows the same method and offers the same stages as a detail at our unit. The wheel clean, pre wash, two bucket hand wash, decontamination, drying, machine polishing, panel wipe and protection are carried out in the same order, wherever the car is.
