Headlights That Have Lost Their Clarity
Headlight restoration is an add on for lenses that have gone cloudy, hazy or yellow. We restore headlights safely using sanding and polishing techniques, and a coating can be added afterwards as an optional extra. It is added to a valet or a detail, and it starts from £60, with the price confirmed once we have seen the car.
Age, sunlight and the road all take their toll on headlights. A lens that was perfectly clear when the car was new can slowly turn dull and yellow, and because the change happens gradually, many owners only notice it when they park beside a newer car or see their own in photographs taken for a sale. By then the whole front of the car can look older than it is.
Ride Effect was founded by Raj Bhogal in 2021, and every job, however small, is approached with care, patience and pride. Headlight restoration is carried out alongside your valet or detail at home, at work or at our unit, in Bedford, Luton, Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Northampton and Towcester.

As It Is
Age, sunlight and the road turn a headlight lens cloudy and yellow, with fine crazing across it. The lamp still works, but its light has to shine through that haze.
Stage 02 of 04From £60
Sanded
The yellowed, crazed surface is sanded away safely, leaving an even matt frost across the whole lens, ready for polishing.
Stage 03 of 04From £60
Polished
Polishing takes the frost away and brings the lens back to clear, so the detail of the lamp shows again and its light no longer shines through a haze.
Stage 04 of 04Optional ExtraFrom £60
Coated
A coating can be added as an optional extra once the lens has been polished clear, for a fine, glassy finish. Ask us about it when you book.
By Hand
Polishing the Lens
Keep working the lens in circles. The haze sands back to an even frost first, then polishes clear.

Why Cloudy Headlights Are Worth Restoring
The first reason is appearance. Headlights sit at the front of the car, where everyone sees them, and cloudy, yellowed lenses make even a clean, polished car look tired. Restoring them makes a real difference to the look of the front end, and it helps an older car look as cared for as it really is.
The second is driving at night. A headlight shines through its lens, so when the lens is cloudy, the light on the road ahead can look dimmer and more scattered than it did when the car was newer, which many drivers notice on unlit roads. Restoring the lens is about bringing back its clarity, so the headlight looks as it should again.
How Headlight Restoration Is Carried Out
We restore headlights safely using sanding and polishing techniques. Sanding works on the clouded, yellowed surface of the lens and leaves it evenly frosted, ready to be refined. Polishing then works the lens back to a clear finish. The care taken at each stage is what turns a frosted lens into a clear one, so neither stage is hurried.
Sanding and polishing are part of our detailing work as a whole. Our paint correction stages use machine polishing with compounds and pads, and sanding can be included for heavier scratches, so the same patience and attention to detail are brought to the headlights when the lenses are restored.

I honestly cannot recommend Raj from Ride Effect enough. The level of detail, care, and pride he puts into his work is on another level. He took his time, didn’t rush anything, and the results speak for themselves.

Adding a Coating to the Lenses
Once the headlights have been restored, a coating can be added to the lenses as an optional extra. It is applied over the freshly polished lens as the final step of the work. We do not publish a price for the headlight coating, so ask us about it when you book and we will include it in the price we confirm with you.
We do not promise that a restored lens will stay clear for any set length of time, with or without the coating. What we do promise is that the work is carried out with care, and if anything is not as it should be, you can contact us within 24 hours with photos and we will arrange a time to put it right.
A Natural Partner for a Detail

Headlight restoration can be added to any valet or detail, and it pairs most naturally with car detailing or paint correction. A Stage 1 Enhancement already includes a single stage machine polish on the paintwork and the lights, and where the lenses have gone cloudy or yellow, adding headlight restoration means they are restored with sanding and polishing techniques to match the refreshed paintwork around them.
Headlight restoration starts from £60, and the price is confirmed once we have seen the car. Prices may vary depending on location, and the optional coating is priced when you book. If you are preparing the car for a sale, an engine bay clean or a glass treatment can be added to the same visit, so the front of the car is finished together.
How Much Does Headlight Restoration Cost?
Headlight restoration starts from £60 as an add on to a valet or a detail. A coating can be added as an optional extra, and as we do not publish a set price for it, it is priced when you book. The final price is confirmed once we have seen the car, and prices may vary depending on location.
Why Do Headlights Go Cloudy or Yellow?
Headlights go cloudy or yellow over time through age, sunlight and the road. The change happens gradually, so it is easy to miss until the lenses look hazy and dull. Restoration works on the surface of the lens, using sanding and polishing techniques to bring back a clear finish.
How Do You Restore Headlights?
We restore headlights safely using sanding and polishing techniques. Sanding works on the cloudy, yellowed surface of the lens, polishing then refines it to a clear finish, and a coating can be added afterwards as an optional extra. The work is added to a valet or a detail and carried out with the same care as the rest of the car.
Can a Coating Be Added After Headlight Restoration?
Yes, a coating can be added to the lenses as an optional extra once they have been restored. We do not publish a price for it, so ask about the coating when you book and it will be included in the price we confirm with you before any work starts.
Can You Restore Headlights as Part of a Detail?
Yes, headlight restoration can be added to any detail, from a Stage 1 Enhancement to a Stage 3 Correction, as well as to any valet. It suits a detail well, because the lenses are restored with sanding and polishing techniques during the same visit in which the paintwork around them is refreshed.
Is Headlight Restoration Safe for My Lenses?
Yes, we restore headlights safely using sanding and polishing techniques, with each stage carried out carefully and patiently. If anything is not as it should be after the work, contact us within 24 hours with photos and we will arrange a time to put it right.
Should I Restore My Headlights Before Selling My Car?
Restoring cloudy headlights is a worthwhile step before a sale, because the lenses sit at the front of the car and appear in almost every photograph of it. Clear lenses help a well kept car look as cared for as it is, and the work pairs naturally with a detail or an engine bay clean when you are preparing to sell.
