The Part of Your Car Under the Bonnet
Engine bay cleaning is an add on that takes the dust, grime and road dirt off the area under your bonnet. We clean the engine bay safely with a steam cleaning process and a degreaser that is safe for the components in the engine, then finish it with a dressing. It is added to a valet or a detail, and it starts from £40.
Most drivers only open the bonnet to top up the screenwash, so the engine bay is easy to forget. Over time it gathers a layer of dust and grime that dulls the plastics and hoses and makes the whole bay look tired, even on a car that is washed every week. A clean engine bay finishes the car properly, inside, outside and under the bonnet.
Ride Effect was founded in 2021 by Raj Bhogal, who sees the work as a craft, not just cleaning cars. The engine bay clean is carried out with your valet or detail, on your drive, at your workplace or at our unit, across Bedford, Luton, Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Northampton and Towcester.

Before the Clean
A Dusty Engine Bay
Over time, dust and road grime settle across an engine bay, dulling the plastics, the hoses and every surface in between.
Step 01 of 03
Degreaser
First, a degreaser that is safe for the components in the engine goes on across the bay to loosen the dirt and grime.
Step 02 of 03
Steam Cleaning
The engine bay is then cleaned safely with a steam cleaning process, which lifts the loosened grime away.
Step 03 of 03
Dressing
Finally, the clean engine bay is finished with a dressing, so it looks as cared for as the rest of the car.

What an Engine Bay Clean Involves
We clean the engine bay with two things working together: a steam cleaning process and a degreaser that is safe for the components in the engine. The degreaser loosens the oily film and grime that build up around the engine cover, the hoses and the plastics, and the steam cleaning process lifts that dirt away, leaving the bay clean.
Once the bay is clean, it is finished with a dressing. The dressing is the last step, and it gives the plastics and hoses an even, cared for finish, so the bay looks neat and complete when the bonnet is opened. It is the same attention to detail that goes into dressing the tyres and trims on a valet, carried through to the part of the car most people never see.

Safe for the Components in Your Engine
Many drivers are wary of cleaning under the bonnet, and that caution is sensible. It is why the engine bay is cleaned safely, with a steam cleaning process and a degreaser that is safe for the components in the engine. Each part of the bay is approached with the same care, patience and pride that goes into the rest of a Ride Effect valet or detail.
If the car has had recent work under the bonnet, or there is anything about the engine bay we should know, please mention it when you book. We will talk it through with you before any work starts, and if anything is not as it should be afterwards, contact us within 24 hours with photos and we will arrange a time to put it right.

Before a Sale or a Service
A buyer who is serious about a car will usually open the bonnet. A clean, dressed engine bay shows them the car has been looked after, and it lets them look over the engine without a layer of grime in the way. Adding engine bay cleaning to an Extensive Clean before you sell means the car is presented properly, from the cabin to the engine.
It is a sensible addition before a service too, when the bonnet will be open and the bay on show. For enthusiasts, a clean engine bay is simply part of a car that is cared for in full, and adding it to a car detail means the finish under the bonnet matches the refreshed paintwork, which is what a detail sets out to achieve.
I honestly cannot recommend Raj from Ride Effect enough. The level of detail, care, and pride he puts into his work is on another level. He took his time, didn’t rush anything, and the results speak for themselves.

Engine bay cleaning starts from £40 and is added to a valet or a detail. It sits naturally alongside an Extensive Clean or one of our detailing stages before a sale, and it can equally be added to a Maintenance Wash when you would like the whole car clean. The price is confirmed once we have seen the car, and prices may vary depending on location.
If you are preparing a car for sale, it is worth looking at the front of the car as a whole. Cloudy or yellowed headlights can spoil the look of a car that is otherwise clean, and our headlight restoration add on restores them using sanding and polishing techniques, so the lights and the engine bay can be done during the same visit.
