Detailing That Looks After Your Paintwork
Our car detailing in Bedford is for drivers who want more than a clean car. A detail works on the paint itself: we remove the contamination that washing leaves behind, machine polish the paintwork to refine the finish and, where it is needed, correct swirl marks and scratches, then protect it with a sealant or a coating.
Raj founded Ride Effect in 2021, having started out cleaning cars for friends and family, and one standard runs through every job: treat every vehicle as if it were our own, with no shortcuts. He sees detailing as a craft, so every car is approached with care, patience and pride.
We offer car detailing for cars and vans on your drive, at your workplace or at our unit, across Bedford, Luton, Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Northampton and Towcester. Our mobile car detailing page explains how a detail at your home is planned. Below, you can see how detailing differs from a valet.

Parts You Have Chosen 0 of 6
A vehicle deserves the same care and respect as the moment it rolled off the showroom floor, and a detail gives it to every part.

Paintwork
The paintwork is washed and fully decontaminated: iron fallout is treated, tar removed and bonded contamination lifted with clay. Once dried, it is machine polished in one, two or three stages, cleaned with a panel wipe and protected with a sealant or a coating.
Paintwork
A valet washes the paintwork safely, with a citrus pre wash, snow foam and a two bucket hand wash using a pH neutral shampoo, then a detailer spray or polish. The Extensive Clean also fully decontaminates it and protects it for six months with a glossy finish.
Wheels and Tyres
Every detail starts with a deep wheel clean, covering the faces, the inner barrels and the areas behind the spokes, where brake dust and grime build up. Cleaning the wheels first keeps that grime off freshly washed paint, and the tyres are dressed at the finish.
Wheels and Tyres
The wheel faces and inner barrels are cleaned, the wheel arches are cleaned and rinsed, and the tyres are dressed. On the Extensive Clean the wheels, arches and tyres are cleaned thoroughly.
Glass and Lights
The lights are machine polished along with the paintwork, which helps bring back their clarity. At the end of the detail, the glass is cleaned and then sealed. Sealed glass helps rain run off the screen and windows, and it is easier to keep clean between washes.
Glass and Lights
The glass is cleaned inside and out. On the Extensive Clean the exterior glass is also treated with a glass cleaner and repellent.
Trims and Plastics
Before machine polishing begins, the trims are masked for protection, so the polish and pad stay on the paintwork and away from rubber and plastic. Once polishing and protection are complete, the masking comes off and the trims are dressed for a clean, even finish.
Trims and Plastics
The tyres and trims are dressed at the end of the wash. On the Extensive Clean all the shuts are cleaned and protected as well.
Interior
Our detailing stages concentrate on the outside of the car. The inside is cleaned in depth by our Extensive Clean, which includes steam cleaning, washed and extracted mats and carpets, a roof lining clean and treated leather seats. Please ask about it when you book.
Interior
Seats, mats and carpets are vacuumed and the dash, trims and door panels wiped down. The Extensive Clean goes further, with steam cleaning, mats and carpets washed and extracted, and leather seats cleaned and treated.
Exhausts
The exhausts are polished and protected as part of the finishing work on a detail. Exhaust tips gather soot and road grime over time, which dulls the metal. Polishing brings back their shine, and the protection that follows helps keep them looking cared for between washes.
Exhausts
A valet washes the whole outside of the car by hand. Polishing and protecting the exhausts is part of every detailing stage.
The Difference Between Valeting and Detailing
Valeting is about cleaning. Our car valeting services, the Maintenance Wash and the Extensive Clean, wash the car inside and out and leave it clean and fresh, and the Extensive Clean goes further by fully decontaminating the paintwork, removing bonded particles. Neither includes machine polishing, which is where detailing begins.
Detailing works on the paint itself. Valeting and detailing start with the same safe wash, but a detail then fully decontaminates the paintwork, machine polishes the paint and lights in one, two or three stages, and finishes with a sealant or a coating. The aim is a depth of gloss that washing alone cannot bring back, along with durable protection for the finish.

Three Things Every Detail Includes
The first is decontamination. Washing lifts loose dirt, but some contamination bonds to the paint and stays there. Brake dust leaves tiny iron particles known as iron fallout, and the road leaves tar. We treat the iron fallout, remove the tar and use clay to lift what remains, so the paint is clean and ready before any machine work begins.
The second is machine polishing in stages. With the trims masked for protection, we polish the paintwork and lights. A Stage 1 Enhancement uses a fine compound to refine the paint and lift its gloss, while a Stage 2 or Stage 3 Correction uses cutting compounds to remove swirl marks and scratches. Our paint correction page explains each stage in depth.
The third is protection. A panel wipe removes polishing residue so the true finish shows, and every stage then finishes with a sealant for gloss and durable protection. You can upgrade to a ceramic coating, a graphene coating or a self healing coating, each lasting 3 to 5 years. Finishing touches follow on the exhausts, tyres, trims and glass.

Sealant or a Coating
Every stage finishes with a sealant. A coating can be added to any Stage 1, 2 or 3 in its place, for three to five years of protection. See ceramic coating.

Choosing the Right Detailing Stage
The right stage depends on the condition of your paint. A Stage 1 Enhancement suits paint that is already in good condition and needs refreshing. A Stage 2 Correction suits paint with moderate swirl marks and light scratches, and a Stage 3 Correction is for paint with heavy swirl marks and scratches, with sanding included where heavier scratches need it.
Prices are set by the size of the vehicle, from small cars such as a Fiat 500 or Audi A1 to extra large vehicles such as a Mercedes G Class or Ford Transit. Detailing prices are starting prices and may vary depending on location, and we are happy to talk through which stage suits your car before you book.

I honestly cannot recommend Raj from Ride Effect enough. The level of detail, care, and pride he puts into his work is on another level. He took his time, didn’t rush anything, and the results speak for themselves.

If you are preparing a car for sale, a detail helps the paintwork look its best in photographs and at viewings. If you have bought a car that is new to you, it gives you a clean start: the paint is decontaminated, polished and protected, so you know exactly how it has been cared for from the day it became yours.
Swirl marks are another common reason to book. They show as fine circular scratches when sunlight or a street light falls on the paint, and a Stage 2 or Stage 3 Correction is designed to remove them. A detail is also the first step before a coating, because each of our coatings goes on at the end of a Stage 1, 2 or 3 and seals in the finish beneath it.
- Preparing a car for sale
- A car that is new to you
- Paint dulled by swirl marks
- Light scratches and marring
- Before a ceramic, graphene or self healing coating
What Is Car Detailing?
Car detailing is a deeper treatment than a valet, because it works on the paintwork itself. We wash and decontaminate the car, machine polish the paint and lights in one, two or three stages, then protect the finish with a sealant or a coating to bring back its gloss and keep it protected.
Do I Need a Valet or a Detail?
You need a valet if the car mainly needs cleaning, and a detail if you want more gloss or the paint has swirl marks or scratches. A Maintenance Wash or an Extensive Clean cleans the car inside and out, while a detail decontaminates, machine polishes and protects the paintwork itself.
How Much Does Car Detailing Cost in Bedford?
Car detailing in Bedford starts from £250 for a Stage 1 Enhancement on a small car, such as a Fiat 500 or Audi A1. A Stage 2 Correction starts from £450 and a Stage 3 Correction from £700, with higher starting prices for larger vehicles. Coating upgrades start from £350, and prices may vary depending on location.
Is It Worth Detailing a Car Before Selling It?
Yes, a detail is a sensible step before selling a car, because it presents the paintwork at its best in photographs and at viewings. A Stage 1 Enhancement refreshes paint that is already in good condition, while a Stage 2 or Stage 3 Correction works on swirl marks and scratches.
Can You Detail Vans as Well as Cars?
Yes, we detail vans as well as cars. Prices are set by size, and the extra large band covers vehicles such as a Ford Transit or Mercedes G Class, with a Stage 1 Enhancement from £400, a Stage 2 Correction from £600 and a Stage 3 Correction from £950.
What Is the Difference Between Detailing and Paint Correction?
Paint correction is the machine polishing part of a detail, the work that takes out swirl marks and scratches. A full detail also covers the preparation before it, including the wheels, the safe wash and decontamination, and the finishing after it, with a sealant or coating, polished exhausts and sealed glass.
