Rain That Beads and Runs Off the Glass
Glass treatment is an add on that applies an invisible, hydrophobic layer to your windscreen and exterior windows. Hydrophobic means water repellent: when rain lands on treated glass, it pulls into beads and runs off, where on untreated glass it tends to spread into a film. It is added to a valet or a detail, and it starts from £120.
Driving in heavy rain is something every UK driver knows well. The rain gets heavier, the spray from the car in front builds, and the view through the windscreen blurs between each pass of the wipers. A water repellent layer helps the rain bead on the glass and run off, which helps keep your view of the road clearer in wet weather.
We apply glass treatment as part of a valet or a detail on your drive, at your workplace or at our unit, across Bedford, Luton, Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Northampton and Towcester. Every job is carried out to the standard Ride Effect has worked to since 2021: treat every vehicle as if it were our own, with no shortcuts.

Seeing the Road in Wet Weather
On untreated glass, rain tends to spread across the windscreen in a thin, uneven sheet, and droplets cling where they land. At night, the headlights of oncoming traffic catch in that film of water and smear across the view. With glass treatment, the water repellent layer encourages the rain to gather into tight, round beads that run off the glass.
The treatment goes on the windscreen and the exterior windows, so the side and rear glass are treated as well as the glass in front of you. That matters when you glance across to a mirror, pull out of a junction or reverse into a space on a wet evening, because your view out of the car is about more than the windscreen alone.
Compare the Glass in the Rain
Drag the line across the windscreen to compare untreated glass with treated glass, and choose Parked, Town or Open Road to change the airflow. On the treated side, the rain gathers into beads and runs off.
Drag the line across the glass to compare, or tap Treated. Take it all the way left to treat the whole windscreen.Swipe sideways to move the line, or tap Treated.

Parked Standing still, the rain pulls into tight, round beads on the treated glass, and the larger beads run down it. On the untreated glass it spreads into a smeared sheet.
Town Once the car is moving, the air pushes the beads up the treated glass and away. The untreated glass holds on to a smeared film of water.
Open Road With more air flowing over the glass, the beads run up and off the treated side faster. On the untreated side the water only smears.
The Whole Windscreen, Treated
With the treatment across the whole windscreen, an invisible water repellent layer covers the glass, so the rain pulls into beads and runs off it.

Book This Add On →What the Glass Treatment Does
The treatment is an invisible, hydrophobic layer applied to the windscreen and the exterior windows. Once it is on, you will not see it: the glass looks just as it did, and the difference only shows when water lands on it. Hydrophobic simply means water repellent, which is why rain beads on the treated surface when it would otherwise spread out.
A water repellent surface also helps make the glass easier to clean, which is welcome on a windscreen that collects road grime and rain marks through the winter. Because glass treatment is added to a valet or a detail, the glass is cleaned during the same visit, as it is on every valet and detail we carry out.

Glass Treatment and a Ceramic Coating
Glass treatment can be added to any valet or detail, and it sits especially well beside a ceramic coating. A ceramic coating, added to any Stage 1, 2 or 3 detail, gives the paintwork gloss and water beading and makes it easier to clean. With the glass treated as well, rain beads on the windows just as it does on the coated paintwork, so the car is cared for all over.
It suits a valet just as well. If your car is on our maintenance plan, or you are booking a Maintenance Wash or an Extensive Clean, glass treatment can be added to that visit, and the glass is cleaned on every maintenance wash that follows. If the headlights have gone cloudy, our headlight restoration add on can be included in the same appointment.
Great service and very professional. Ceramic coating makes the car look better than when I picked it up from the showroom.

How Much Does Glass Treatment Cost?
Glass treatment starts from £120 as an add on to a valet or a detail, and it covers the windscreen and the exterior windows. The price is confirmed once we have seen the car, and prices may vary depending on location, so let us know the make and model and where the car will be.
What Does a Hydrophobic Glass Treatment Do?
A hydrophobic glass treatment makes the glass water repellent, so rain pulls into beads and runs off the windscreen and windows. Ours is an invisible layer applied to the windscreen and the exterior windows, so the glass looks the same as before, and the difference shows as soon as it rains.
Which Windows Does the Treatment Cover?
Glass treatment is applied to the windscreen and the exterior windows, so the side and rear glass you look through when checking around the car are treated as well as the glass in front of you. The layer is invisible, so every window looks just as it did before.
Should I Add Glass Treatment to a Ceramic Coating?
Yes, glass treatment sits well beside a ceramic coating, because the paintwork and the glass will then both bead water. A ceramic coating can be added to any Stage 1, 2 or 3 detail, and glass treatment can be added to the same visit, so the paintwork is coated and the glass is treated together.
Does Glass Treatment Make a Windscreen Easier to Clean?
Yes, a water repellent surface helps make the glass easier to clean, which is useful on a windscreen that collects road grime and rain marks. The windscreen and windows are also cleaned on every valet, so if your car is on our maintenance plan, the glass is looked after at every visit.
Can You See the Treatment on the Glass?
No, the treatment is an invisible layer, so the windscreen and windows look just as they did before it was applied. You notice it when it rains, as the water gathers into beads and runs off the glass in place of spreading across it in a sheet.
Can Glass Treatment Be Added to Any Valet?
Yes, glass treatment can be added to any valet or detail, from a Maintenance Wash or an Extensive Clean to one of our detailing stages. It is carried out during the same visit, on your drive, at your workplace or at our unit, and the price is confirmed before any work starts.
